In May 2016, Old Spice came up with a simple but brilliant idea: If you can run it, you can own it. People were asked to go for a run and create GPS routes in the shape of things they wanted to win – like a guitar, coffee mug or even a tricycle.
Those who shared their creative running routes could win prizes that matched the shape they made.
The campaign was linked to Old Spice’s “Hardest Working” range of body washes and deodorants made for men who put in the effort every day.
Participants were asked to apply Old Spice before running, track their route using a mobile website, and share it online with the hashtag #RunOldSpice.
What made it stand out was how it made fitness feel exciting.
Every day, new prizes were announced to keep people interested, and the campaign ended with a fun adult tricycle giveaway that got everyone talking.
Old Spice also teamed up with popular YouTubers and digital creators like Logan Paul, Smosh Games, Rooster Teeth and FaZe Apex.
Each added their own twist. One ran a controller-shaped route, another drew a heart while “searching for love.” The results were funny, creative and perfect for social media.
Thousands of people took part. Social media was full of unique route shapes and funny prize ideas.
