Shot #21: Herzberg's Theory

2 factor theory that influences the consumer behaviour

Hi,

Here’s your shot for the day.

Herzberg’s Theory

Frederick Herzberg developed a 2 factor theory that influences the consumer behaviour

  1. Dissatisfiers- things that cause dissatisfaction

  2. Satisfiers- things that cause satisfaction

The absence of dissatisfiers is not enough to motivate a purchase, you need satisfiers too.

For example, laptop that doesn’t come with a warranty is a dissatisfier. Yet, the presence of a warranty is not a motivator of purchase because it is not a source of intrinsic satisfaction.

If you wish to sell more to your customers

  1. Avoid dissatisfiers (e.g poor onboarding process, poor service, etc.)

  2. Although these things will not sell a product directly, they might easily unsell it

  3. Identify the major satisfiers of purchase in the market and supply them
