Shot # 50: My Twitter Thread Went Viral
Why I think it did
Hi, this is Luv.
Here’s your weekly marketing shot.
Let’s begin.

A thread.. 🧵

This thread got
- 1,200 Retweets- 4,700 Likes- 890,300 Impressions
and counting…
Now, read on to understand what I think worked for me on Twitter:
1: Used suggested topics as keywords
Startups and books are 2 of the most popular topics on Twitter. I combined both.
Why?
Your tweets appear in people's feed who follow the topic even if they are not following you.
2: Listicle
"10 Books Recommended by 10 Successful Startup Founders" I've observed that listicles outperform any other format.
It creates a sense of curiosity.
People wanted to know how many books they have read from the list recommended by top CEOs.

3: Borrowed authority
If the books were recommended by me, no one would care.
But, I shared the recommendations of global startup founders.
People paid attention!
4: Written for a global audience
I wanted the thread to travel across the world. I intentionally mentioned the founders of global companies. Even if people don't know their names, they certainly know about the product or company.
5: Did not share the usual recommendations
I chose to skip the obvious books like Zero to One, Lean Startups, etc. so that people discovered at least 1 new title from the list. And, it worked.
They bookmarked, RTed & commented

6: Formatting
I followed a simple template
Book: [X] Recommended by: [Y] Overview: [Z] Link: URL This format was easy to read. It helped people to decide if they wanted to add a particular book to their reading list, without leaving the Thread.

7: Replaced link snippet with the image I replaced the ugly link snippet with the beautiful cover image of the book for each of the recommendations in the list. It looked visually appealing.
8: Kept writing
I have written 25+ threads before this but they hardly got any engagement. The aforementioned pointers do not guarantee virality but can be a handy checklist to improve your chances.

Thanks,
