Shot #58: Leverage Newsjacking- How I got 100K impressions doing it.

Let's find out.

Hi,

This is Luv and here’s your weekly marketing shot :)

(Delivered every Tuesday)

What’s Newsjacking?

Newsjacking is a term coined by David Meerman Scott in his book- Newsjacking

It is a practice used by print and digital journalists as well as businesses to go viral through social media.

It involves "piggybacking" on a mainstream news to gain visibility.

When a big event happens, it's a great way to get in front of a ton of new users. You can take the viewers attention and get them to focus on your business by releasing content related to the trending story.

Important: 1. Your post should be subtle and non-offensive 2. Avoid posting on religious or political issues. It can have adverse effect.

Where to look for Trending News?

Twitter Trends is the best tool to find out what’s trending on social media.Newsjacking only works in real time. Therefore, writing long form content isn’t feasible.

You have to be real quick and creative with memes because they are easy to produce.

Brands like Zomato, ScoopWhoop, Dunzo use it to boost engagement on their social media handles.

I have tried Newsjacking a couple of times. The reach was phenominal. My tweets were picked up by leading media sites like Mashable & Indiatimes. See for yourself :)

Here’s another one when Zomato cofounder left the company

You don’t need a huge following to get these result.

You just need to be quick and creative with what you post.
