Shot #64: This startup used Google Ad to get Investor's attention

How Tadabase used it.

Hi,

This is Luv and here’s your weekly marketing shot :)

(Delivered every Tuesday)

Tadabase, a no-code startup, was seeking funding. The company's CEO, Moe Levine, was a fan of the investor Mark Suster and wanted to draw his attention.

A person like Mark receives 100s if not 1000s of cold pitches every month. Moe wanted to skip this queue and stand out of the crowd. He had read that Mark used Google Alerts to track mentions of his own name. So, he tried something very creative with Google Ads.

He used Search Ads to target investor Mark Suster and hoped that the ad would catch Suster's attention and potentially lead to a meeting.

Ryan Hover, founder of Product Hunt, took notice of it and shared it on Twitter (See below)

The ad copy read

“Mark you haven’t invested in nocode. Therefore, we put this ad here to get your attention. If you’re not Mark, please don’t click here and save us some money.”

It worked. Mark responded to the tweet.
