I recently read about a very smart campaign by Visa that I just had to share with you.

It happened in Egypt, but the idea is something we can all learn from.

In Egypt, most people don’t say “card” when they are paying. They simply say “Visa”. It has become such a common habit that shopkeepers often ask, “Cash walla Visa?”
Which means, Cash or card?

Now Visa could have just enjoyed this free brand promotion. But instead, they turned it into a campaign.

And it worked beautifully.

What did Visa do?

They started a campaign called “Walla Visa?” and gave small business owners a special device.

This device could listen and catch whenever someone said the word “Visa” at their shop.

Every time that happened, Visa gave the shop owner free ad credits on apps like TikTok and Instagram.

So a local barber, tea stall guy or grocery shop owner was suddenly getting help to run digital ads. All because people were already saying the word “Visa” during payments.

Pretty smart, right?
